American Airlines, 30 minute layover between flights so I hustle across the airport. Get to my gate and it’s empty. Chase down an employee who finds my flight has been moved to the other end of the airport.
No message on the big monitor or anything.
Literally ran across the airport to catch the plane. Someone who couldn’t run for a decent distance due to luggage, kids, old whatever would not have made that plane.
I was so pissed when I got there covered in sweat I wanted to...eh better not say it.
While I do check on line for my connecting flight gate, I always look at the departure board as soon as I get in the terminal. I can't count the number of times the gate number has changed.
The last time that I flew through O'Hare, I sat aboard a United A320 at the gate for an hour and 40 minutes because the plane had not been fueled for the flight.

Is this common? I rarely fly
Download the airline app before flying and while taxiing in check the gate to see if it changed, then double check on the board when leaving. Takes a few seconds and will save you some run time.
Smartphone app + recheck the first big list of departures monitor I see after I get off the first plane.
And there's a difference, sometimes large, between what the airline calls their minimum legal connection time and what frequent flyers call the minimum sensible connection time.

One of the things I like about Southwest is that they often call out connecting flights and gates during the last minutes on board. But yes, checking and double-checking a gate and time as soon as you can connect is essential these days, especially at nightmare hubs like O'Hairy.

Not true. They've studied the situation very carefully at every major airport and test candidate Usain Bolt has never had trouble making his connections.
AA has the worst attitude toward their customers, imho. They seem to actually hate them. I swore off flying them years ago.
