One of the new college football Hall of Famers has an inflated ego — and more.
The Goodyear Blimp, which has become a staple at major sports events for more than 60 years, is being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as an honorary member — the first nonplayer or coach to be inducted.
I wonder which model will represent it in its CFHOF display, one of the true blimps built by Goodyear, or one of the current fleet of semi-rigid airships built by the Zeppelin company?
Anyway, cool that they've inducted it into the CFHOF.
Great move. I attended USC, and it was always exciting to see the blimp orbiting as I approached the Coliseum, gave that "big game" feel. Usually was just for the UCLA and Notre Dame games, but there were others (Alabama in 1977 comes to mind).
I attended the University of Oklahoma, and after my college days were done, I lived about ten miles north of the campus. One Friday I was at home and I heard a droning noise outside. I walked out in the back yard, and the Goodyear blimp went right over the house. It was on its way to Norman for the game the following afternoon.
