I once accidentally transported live plant seeds across countries. When cleaning my luggage I discovered in one of my luggage pockets there are some lychee pits and skin. There were garbage that I stuck there for the time being and completely forgot about them. At the time I discover them, they had traveled in and out of maybe 10 countries.
So I am wondering, what's with the airport x ray machines? Can they detect plant seeds which most countries prohibit importing?
The USDA uses sniffer beagles for that kind of inspection work at many US points of entry because they're food driven and non-threatening to passengers.
What are the USDA rules regarding Pulses? Things like pigeon peas, chick-pea or beans? Many international travellers do bring food stuff like pulses and spices. While rules about ban on meat & dairy products are clear, I am not sure whether this kind of pulses beans are considered live seed?
I went through with a bag of kitty litter and the line came to a screeching halt! Once I identified the substance they declined reaching in - though my cat didn't mind if they did. He hadn't used it yet.
