A Boeing 767 cargo jet crashed in a bay outside of Houston with three people on board Saturday afternoon, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
Atlas Air Flight 3591 was traveling from Miami to Houston when it crashed into Trinity Bay, near Anahuac, Texas, shortly before 12:45 CT, the FAA said.
This is the seventh crash of a 767 to involve fatalities, the first since 2002 - and the first in the United States since the two involving the World Trade Center in September 11, 2001.
I saw aerial coverage of the crash scene. If the reporter didn't state that a 767 crashed, it would have been difficult to see that a plane crashed as there was no parts of a plane to see.
The Boeing 767-300 dove straight into the water in Trinity Bay at considerable speed after contact was lost about 30 miles southeast of Houston's George Bush Intl. Airport.
I can't imagine the grief the families of the 3 flight crew members are experiencing.
