I'm sitting at the front of the plane and we're currently boarding. I heard "wind shear, wind shear, terrain, terrain, pull up" coming from the cockpit. I believe that was a test of the warning system. I'm in a 737 btw.

Is it different for other types of jets?
Yes. On the airbus we don't have to test those in the preflight. On the older Boeing airframe I was on we did. And older rjs we did as well. Each type has its own procedures.
