El Alto International Airport, Bolivia. Elevation 13,325 feet. The plane comes in really fast.

When you disembark, if you want, you can have a cup of coca tea to help prevent altitude sickness - you definitely know you are in an Andean country.

Default Appleton

Appleton has cheese curd vending machines to remind you what primary product is made in Wisconsin.

In addition, the monster Gulfstream facilities and hangars that dwarf the terminal remind everyone that the runways are less for commercial traffic. In fact Gulfstream is expanding again at the Appleton airport.

Reminder that Appleton is the closest airport to the Oshkosh airport, which we all know is a busy area in August each year.

I like the Palm Springs airport, which is mostly open air, with little umbrella stands and umbrellas strategically placed in the remote chance of rain.

The airport in Dubai is kind of over-the-top with luxury stores, which fits the place. One of the weirdest things I've seen was 4 Arab men in thwabs and keffiyehs eating at the McDonald's there. I mean, I guess it's common there, but it was certainly something you don't see in a McDonalds in the US often.

Have not been there since the last expansion but I always thought the airport at Bozeman, Montana was fitting for the area.

I'd have to say LAX....only because once you land, you have to taxi for like 45 minutes to get to the gate. It's like getting stuck in traffic on the 405. UGH.

But for beauty, the tiny landing strip on the island of Moorea in Tahiti.......gorgeous flight in on a puddle jumper going over the pristine blue waters....

Jackson Hole is pretty nice, too, descending on one side of the Tetons....

Mercedita Airport in Ponce, PR, just a short walk to the Serralles rum distillery.

Now airports and terminals are contrived to evoke the place in which they stand. In the planning stages for LGA's redevelopment, for example, the developers were required to incorporate New York images and offer products in the concessions from the "Taste New York" program that promotes New York State-produced foods. The bridges leading from the CTB out to the gates were also promoted as evoking New York City's hundreds of bridges, even though they were actually likely designed because of the severe space limitations (the planes can taxi beneath the bridges).

Wichita. It is like the inside of an old 1930s airplane.
