Some communities in millersville glen burnie and pasadena are right on rivers and tributaries, and well within an hour's commute. I live in Millersville, in Anne Arundel County and work at Johns Hopkins in East Baltimore. If you don't want to live in the city, I would definitely choose Anne Arundel County. If you take 895 through the harbor tunnel, there's a Hopkins parking garage right on the other side of the tunnel on the 3700 block of monument street, and Hopkins shuttles run continuously from there to the main campus. This parking is by far the cheapest at $65/month, not to mention there's usually a waiting list for many of the other lots because they are full, and from my driveway in millersville to my lab door in the ross buliding its usually about 35 - 40 minutes. You could even look as far as northern parts of annapolis but that might be stretching to get your commute in under an hour. Also, Hopkins has security and plainclothes police everywhere and there is even a service center and car wash service at the monument street lot. Hope this is helpful, and welcome to Hopkins! Just let me know if you have any more questions.
