Is this true? Or should I just suck it up and try to find a place in Columbia?
I don't think the commute from Baltimore to Columbia is very bad. It should take between 30 and 40 minutes each way depending on where you live. The southern parts of the city closest to I-95 (e.g. Federal Hill, Locust Point, Washington Village, Ridgely's Delight) would probably be the easiest, although I have a friend who makes the commute from Hampden every day and doesn't have many complaints.

If you are at all a city person, I don't think you'd want to live in Columbia. Federal Hill, Otterbein, and Pigtown are all downtown Baltimore neighborhoods close to 95, and would not make a horrible commute to Columbia. If you were in DC you would be going against traffic. Bethesda could be an option. Where are you relocating from? Choice of neighborhoods definitely depend on what you're looking for.

Default Bethesda may not be an option

rfried -- I don't think Bethesda is an option, unless kjjonzee is a millionairess, if which case she does not require our suggestions. Bethesda housing prices are incredibly high and beltway traffic from there to I-95 is murder.
I stand by my recommendation: Columbia.
