This board is so preoccupied with crime and relative safety that I want to post the following about Ruxton, one of the choicest neighborhoods in the metro area. They have a rash of burglaries which is likely to continue until the perp is caught.
Will this make Ruxton less desirable. I doubt it. But it may offer some househunter a buying opportunity if prices drop.

A report from Officer Gary Dahle of the Baltimore County Police:

Over the past two weeks, there have been four residential burglaries in the general areas of Ruxton/Riderwood and West Towson communities. So far, the suspect(s) have targeted only single family residences. In all four cases, the suspect(s) have gained entry into the residences through a door which had been left unlocked by the homeowner. Among the property stolen, the suspect(s) removed electronic equipment such as big screen TVs, cameras, DVDs, laptops, computers, jewelry, and cash. The suspect(s) are unknown at this time. These burglaries have occurred during the day between 7:45 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Please report all suspicious activity to 911 and remember to lock your vehicles, shed, and residence.

Please forward this information through your neighborhood email network.

So they have 1 suspected burglar in the area, and the police are taking an active roll in finding the person. How does this equate to Downtown Baltimore, where people get beat to death in broad daylight and the cops don't even blink an eye?

Default Ruxton crime

I am not drawing direct parallels. I mention Ruxton's preoccupation with property crimes only because the community is so paranoid they vetoed a light-rail stop in their village. Said it would ferry all the burglars from the city.
Clearly this one has found alternate means of transportation.
