I have to agree with your statements. This city is the textbook definition of a 'hell hole'. No doubt that racial tensions still exist, but I get the feeling that a majority of the people in this city don't give a sh*t about improving it. We have lazy and corrupt politicians in office, and a total lack of accountability here. People are basically free to do whatever the hell they want with no repercussions. I have always said that this city has so much potential to be a better place because of the many amenities that it offers along with it's location, but until we have the right people leading the city in the right direction, it will continue to be a violent and miserable hell hole.

If you don't see how diverse the area is, and can actually think that the county is made up of ony one type of person, you're too closed minded to stay. Sorry.

Guns up, God has not forsaken you in anyway. You can leave at anytime. I would be happy to pack your things.

What are you doing to improve it? Nothing. You just want it handed to you.

Whoever is defending this place, really just stop... "hellhole" "dump" "Heroin Capital" "Crack Capital" and "Harm city, Murderland" are all very accurate descriptions of Baltimore. Don't being trying to con people that live outside of here in thinking this is some nice place to live and raise a family, shame on you. You all are straight up lieing to yourself and others.

As far as diversity goes, comment directed to Merc63, I'm not close minded about my statements in the county. Do I visit everybody's house? NO. Do I go to public places like Walmart and grocery shopping? YES. My observations of rudeness and ghettofied behavior are my opinion based on what I see thank you very much.

And one last tidbit, the segregation here is like living in the Civil War Era. Come on down to Baltimore anytime you like. Such a great place to live, not!

Negative posts like these are all the same. They are add nothing to the intelligent dialogue of this board. I'm not trying to say that the negative people posting are only accustomed to the 'burbs, or they should move there. But it does essentially come down to individual tolerance of living in a rougher city (gosh - if I see one more "how does Baltimore compare to Boston/Seattle/Houston?" or "X city is soooo much better than Baltimore" I'm going to silently scream) and whether you take advantage of all the good stuff Baltimore does have to offer. Which - if you mine this board - there is a lot. Of course if you focus on only the negative - - you're going to end up despising this city more and more with every passing second - - b/c you're right, things are only verrrry slowly getting better and the politicians are like giant roadblocks to that improvement.

In my opinion, I also feel like the people that are super negative about Baltimore might also have a lot of things in their lives they're unhappy about, beyond living in a city that they don't have any love for. Maybe it's a crappy, unfulfilling job that doesn't pay well, an awful commute, an unhappy family situation, lack of supportive friends and colleauges, an unpleasant house/apartment, etc. I lived in NYC for five years - - NYC, what an amazing city! - - and towards the end of living there I was just miserable with everything, and I started to really despise the city itself. I couldn't wait to leave! I would talk smack about how expensive and unlivable it was and how awful all the people were that lived there. Since I've moved - I love going back to visit and don't feel that way anymore (well - - I do still feel it's almost impossibly expensive, but you can live out in the boroughs and do better). Perhaps it's the whole package that makes the negative posters miserable - - not just Baltimore.

Before the negative posters get all defensive and come back with "I've got a great life - with the exception of this awful city" - - I promise I'm not calling anyone out particularly - - it's just a theory I have b/c I'm often astounded by the negativity on this board. Why waste time on this board speaking so negatively and arguing opinions with the folks that love Baltimore? Instead I would think a better use of time would be searching job postings in other cities, reading other city boards and asking questions and getting involved in a dialogue about those cities, and making plans to leave and hopefully improve your situation.

This is a forum where people can express their opinions Positive or Negative. Despite who is president for the next 2 years, the local government, the surroundings, this is not a Poor African Country, or Mideast country, people will always have the right to voice their opinion whatever it may be.

Personally if I've heard all positive things about a city, I would be quite skeptical. I would believe that anyone who considers moving to a city would want to hear the negative.

All in my opinion of course

I'm with you Jermaine, and I've appreciated your ability to be critical of Baltimore in a non-ridiculous, constructive way in the past ... even if we got into it once or twice.

But there's a difference between that and dredging up old threads for the purpose of being negative. That just seems like a big waste of time. SLO is right: when things aren't going well for you in your life, you might see the place you live as the reason. It's happened to me before.

But you're responsible for your own happiness no matter where you live. Most people in Baltimore can find their niche if they try. But you have to try. And if it doesn't work, move and try again, right?
