Which project is in better position to get federal funding? The CCT will service the new 900 acre "Life Science City" in Gaithersburg which will add 60,000 new jobs to Gaithersburg. The redline will service west Baltimore through the CBD connecting many neighborhoods with mass transit to east Baltimore. Which project is more important to Maryland from an economical standpoint?

CCT=projected 43,000 daily ridership
Redline=projected 60,000 daily ridership

CCT=15 miles
Redline= 14.5 miles

CCT=cost $999 million
Redline=cost $1.8 billion

CCT= FTA cost effectiveness $16-$20
Redline= FTA cost effectiveness $22.77

CCT=15 stations
Redline=20 stations

I know many of you know all about the redline but probably don't know anything about the CCT. I will post some pics of where the stations will be

CCT Phase 1 stops in Gaithersburg:

Watkins Mill Town Center 1 stop (Under Construction)

Crown Farm and Existing Washingtonian Center 1 stop (Under Construction)

Kentlands 1 stop (Awaiting CCT)

Science City 4 stops (Awaiting CCT)

I am hoping the red line gets top priority. But with this economy, who knows.

The Redline has cleared major hurdles. It's not a sure thing, but similar projects throughout the U.S. that have reached this level of planning have almost always received federal money.

Red and purple light rail lines are already the state priority. They are both going to compete for federal funding this year. Marc is doing enhancements for the brunswick line over the next 15 years but the penn Line is where the demand is. The brunswick line will never have high ridership because of metro's redline. In fact, the purple line when built will hurt the brunswick marc line because people will be able to take metro to get to Silver Spring. That will take almost all ridership from Gaithersburg to D.C. off the brunswick line and put them on Metro.

The CCT light rail line when built will help a great deal with the brunswick marc line because many people in Frederick and West Virginia who have one of Gaithersburg's 200,000+ jobs in 2030 will be able to take Marc and transfer to the CCT. Right now that isn't possible and you know people hate taking buses. Gaithersburg will become an even bigger major job center over the next decade and the commuting trends will take a dramatic shift. Many people will be commuting into Gaithersburg instead of D.C. which will help the Marc brunswick line more than anybody.

Thats not how ppl travel , most people who are riding into DC will not get off at Silver Spring but they will ride it to DC Union. Once the Brunswick line is extended Hagerstorm ,the line should see another 20,000 added. The Brunswick line is excepted to have 40,000 daily by 2030 ....Most will probably get off at Gaithersburg and Silver Spring , but there still be a decent amount going to DC Union. Newer lines won't hurt MARC's Ridership , it should cause the system to grow.....the more connections more easier it for people to use MARC without a car connection.... How do we know Gaithersburg will have 200,000+ Jobs by 2030?

That's what they are projecting at least:

City of Gaithersburg 2030 Projections:

Gaithersburg without any future Annexation by 2030:
Land Area: 10.2 sq. mi.
Density: 9,632 sq. mi.
Population: 98,256
Jobs : 130,037

Gaithersburg by 2030 with MEL Annexation(MEL=Maximum Expansion Limit)
land area: 15.5 sq. mi.
Density: 8,925.4 sq. mi.
Population: 138,345
Jobs: 205,901

"Additionally, the City has delineated areas outside of the current incorporated limits. These
areas, defined as the maximum expansion limits (MEL), are sites that could realistically be
annexed into the City of Gaithersburg by the year 2030. The MEL includes current Montgomery
County enclaves such as the Rosemont neighborhood and larger under-developed tracts of land
such as the Belward Farm and the McGown properties2. The 2030 growth projections defined in
this document apply the same methodologies and visions to the areas in the MEL."

But we don't know this for sure , things change and i doubt 200,000 jobs will go to that area...its to small. Unless your talking about Baltimore or DC or NOVA.

The life science city alone will have 60,000 jobs and that's just a few blocks. Also, Gaithersburg is projected to have higher density than Baltimore with over 9,500 people per sq. mile. 200,000 jobs isn't out of the question with that density. As of 2008, there are 92,873 jobs in the Gaithersburg city MEL limits. That is without the life science city's expected 60,000 jobs. That is already, 152,873 jobs off jump street. Now think about everywhere else in the city.
