We spend quite a bit of time on this forum wondering whether Baltimore is up or down. Let me just make two observations:
Speeding from the east side through the tunnel on I-95 today, I was startled to see two huge (meaning long), brand new mid-rise buildings overlooking the interstate in South Baltimore. I would guess they are somewhere behind the shopping South Side Marketplace, just east of Riverside Park.
Also, the block on Pennsylvania Avenue from Retreat to Kensett street (near Fulton) has been transformed with a new apartment development. (For those in the know, that block is opposite to the Ruppersberger Brothers meatpacking outfit, the family business of a certain U.S. congressman and former Baltimore county executive).

There have been comments made about Baltimore Public Schools. The link is about a k-8 school in the Canton-PattersonPark neighborhoods. It's a great little school.

Its going to have a Harris Teeter (sp?) amongst condos and other shopping there in Locust Point. If you want to keep up to date on all the new developments go to skyscrapercity. Its a pretty "moving thread"...probably a page or two a day on the developments in the city. It is happening!
