Thinking of purchasing in Abingdon, but I work downtown, any info what the commute will be like during the morning and evening rush hours

Are you familar with the Baltimore area at all? The white marsh/ 95-695 interchange is a major bottleneck. Slightly over an hour would be my best guess... will depend to some extent on exactly where you are going downtown and how far from 95 the place you are considering is.
