Default Baltimore to DC Commute

I work right near Union Station in Washington D.C. (literally, two blocks away). I'm thinking about moving to Baltimore because real estate is so much cheaper. I could buy a nice house for 300 or 350k, but in DC, I'd get something tiny... maybe even a condo.

I used to live in Baltimore and am aware of the city's good and bad points. I actually like Baltimore, and wouldn't mind living there.

My question is this: If I live very close to Penn Station in Baltimore, and I work very close to Union Station in DC, what is the quickest commute possible? Anybody have a similar setup? How is it? Thanks.

MARC or Amtrak, either one. MARC is a little cheaper, but takes a little longer. They're both around an hour (unless you catch the Acela, then it's about 35-45 minutes)
