So many folks associate Baltimore with "The Wire", I thought it would be interesting to have a thread about the cast and what they have been up to.

Here is recent news about Marlo:

It's too bad about what happened, I never imagined a gun battle would erupt at a baby shower.

Other members of the cast are doing better: Sonja Sohn (detective Kima Greggs) now plays another homicide detective on ABC's new show "Body of Evidence" while Wendell Pierce (detective Bunk Moreland) has a starring role in HBO's "Treme" as musician in post-Katrina New Orleans. And of course Idris Elba's career has exploded with starring roles in "Obsessed", "The Losers", "Takers", and now he has landed the title role for James Patterson's "Alex Cross" series.

On the other hand, you've got Felicia "Snoop" Pearson. In a case of life imitating art, she's out on bail for charges related to a drug conspiracy after a several month long DEA investigation (wire tap?) ended with a raid on her house and the arrest of over 60 people.

Idris was replaced by Tyler Perry for the "Alex Cross" series.

Last August, when news broke that The Wire‘s Idris Elba was to follow in the footsteps of Morgan Freeman (Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider) and reboot the James Patterson detective character Alex Cross on the big screen, we were psyched — and this was before we’d seen his Golden Globe-nominated turn as a detective in the miniseries Luther.

EW chatted with Elba last October about the film, which was to then have been directed by David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway, Pitch Black), and all he would reveal was that the script was “phenomenal” and if he could pick his dream costar/nemesis, it’d be Joaquin Phoenix. So cut to the news today that cameras will be rolling this June on I, Alex Cross with Tyler Perry in the titular role and director Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious and xXx) at the helm. What happened?

I thought Idris Elba would be perfect for the role based on his performances in both Luther and Daddy's Little Girls. I just can't see Tyler Perry in such an intense role. Actually, I can barely see him in ANY role and think he should stay behind the camera. I can't begin to express my disappointment, especially after the way Patterson seemed so excited about Elba on the TODAY Show. I might just be skipping the movie now.
