I am a 23 year old female who will be attending school at University of Maryland Baltimore in the fall. I am from Maryland (DC Area) so I am familiar with Baltimore and it's neighborhoods but have a few questions. I am thinking of either living in Federal Hill (pro: I would enjoy living there, safer) or in an apartment that is close to school - probably a block or two south, close to camden yards (pro: I'll be spending a lot of time at school, wouldn't have to drive to class each day).

Any thoughts on which one would be a better choice? I am torn between the convenience of living near school and living in neighborhood that I like. I know that there is no definite answer to this post but I would really appreciate opinions!

There is no reason why you couldn't ride a bike from Federal Hill if you were concerned about the commute. You'll find many more rental opportunities and night life in Federal Hill than in the areas directly surrounding Camden Yards (Ridgeley's Delight, Pigtown, Barre Circle) although all are nice places to live. Rental costs are generally less expensive in the three aforementioned places but the houses tend to be smaller.

Thanks for you help! I have decided to live in the university apartments near school for the first year then move to Fed Hill the next year.
