I know it is a short shot to ask this tonight. We plan to take the kids down to DC tomorrow-- Sunday. I remember the traffic was terrible 20 miles north of DC on the weekdays. Would be driving on t he weekend better? Parking? We plan to take them to the Mall-- just 2 museums then drive by the White House & make a quick stop by Lincoln. Or would it be better to take metro to DC for 6 of us? If so, where should we catch the train? Also, we plan to stop by Bethesda & Rockville on the way back. Is it doable?

Help!

TIA.

Edit: We will save the trip to Bethesda & Rockville for another time to explore. So basically just a quick trip to DC.

We generally take the train. We go to Silver Spring because parking is easy there on weekends. We take 29 down, stay straight when 29 turns left, then turn left on E. West Hwy and park in the lot by NOAA. It's hard to park in DC all the time.

We've never had trouble driving into DC on the weekends nor finding parking (with some patience).

Drive down 29 to Silver Spring and take the metro into DC from there if that makes you more comfortable.

Update:

We put off the DC trip to a later weekend. We went to Rockville & Bethesda instead. Did some sight seeing, food shopping & had a delicious dinner in Bethesda.

For future DC trip, we may drive down to DC. Found a parking 10' walk from the Smithsonian for $8 all day weekend. That is not too bad. Afterwards, we can drive by the White House & make a quick stop by Mr. Lincoln.

Thanks for all the suggestion. It will be useful in the future if we need to take the metro in Silver Springs.

I'd just drive. Parking isn't the easiest thing to do but I've never had too much trouble near the mall on a weekend.
