Brooklyn is not safe. I had a friend who lived there 3 years ago. The year before he moved there were 6 murders within a short walk of his house, including one right across from his house. There was a murder there last week. Prostitution is rampant there also, especially on the side streets. They have been pushed there to avoid the blue light cameras. I could go and on about what he saw when he lived there, but I think it suffices to say it is not a great place to live.

Thank you so much for all the responses. I will cross it off the list of places to look. The list grows smaller....and smaller....and smaller. Fells/Canton/Fed Hill/Upper Fells/Butcher's Hill. That's it. That's where I'll keep looking then. Sigh. Just trying to have an easier time with city taxes. Maybe I"ll just build a tree house.

I posted this before here, but I figured this thread warrants a re-post. Here's a video of a rapper from Brooklyn giving you a "tour."

eav1221 -

I live in Curtis Bay. What addresses were you considering? Not all of Curtis Bay is dreaded, it gets better at the top of the hill near the water tank.

@ Glom...because it would take a long time to email you a listing of all the houses I've come across...can you just tell me some of the best streets in Curtis Bay to focus my search? That would help me. Best streets--as in safest/nicest/stuff like that.

Thanks!

1300 block Cypress St.
1300 & 1400 block Elm Tree St.
1300 & 1400 block Filbert St.
Prudence St.
Pascal St.
Inner Circle
1400 block Church St. (and west into Brooklyn Park)

Again, the closer to the top of the hill and the water tank, the better.

There are some more, but I'd have to be looking at a map in order to list them. I'll add more later.

If the house at 1317 Elm Tree St. is still for sale, you might want to look into that one.

I'd recommend checking out Morrell Park and Lakeland. Morrell Park is a nice community that just needs to be cleaned up on Washington BLVD. I could see the neighborhood getting pretty nice as The WestPort/Middle Branch area improves. Homes are cheap but go pretty quickly.

Lakeland is similar, nice in parts, and not so nice in others, but once again, another neighborhood that could improve from the Middle Branch Development.
