Haven't checked this area out yet, but home prices are decent. I'm a SWF and am eager to find a nice affordable house to buy by summer's end...Is Curtis Bay alright? Is it run down? How about Brooklyn? Don't be shy. Tell me. It's nasty, isn't it. has to be with such low prices. SIGH.

If you were not interested by Pigtown, you will not like either of these places. They are like Pigtown but with far less gentrification.

I'd agree with that. I have friends who live there. It's a nice little place in a good location for commuters.

I shouldn't be so quick to dismiss Brooklyn and Curtis Bay. There are some nice streets.

Can someone tell me the nice streets? There are some nice-looking homes in Curtis Bay and they're affordable! and it's in a good location for a commute to Anne Arundel Co. Fairhaven? how about what are the streets to AVOID? just wondering. So Violetville..hmm...

I'm not familiar enough with the area to suggest. I'm making my comments based on bike rides around Brooklyn and Curtis Bay, the most recent of which was about a year ago.

I'd avoid Brooklyn and Curtis Bay. Pigtown would be better than either. Violetville on the other hand isn't too bad for the money.

aaaagh this is so confusing. These homes SEEM nice. I'll do a drive by. What is the basis for the "avoid" opinions...and for the "not so bad" opinions? what is "bad?" and I'm not into Pigtown because of all the violence surrounding it...These areas on the other hand come up clean when I do a Baltimore crime map search...not much going on there in terms of crime, which me likes.

Brooklyn should not be clean on your crime map, you are doing something wrong with the map if it is. Its rough... pretty high crime and not much to recommend it. Remember that not all crime is reported and it tends to be underreported in lousy areas due to either apathy, distrust of the police, the victim is also a criminal and fears consequences of involving the law, or some combination thereof. If you were creeped out by Westport, you'll be creeped out there too I think. IMO its probably a little better than Westport's current form, but same ballpark. As someone said, its like Pigtown minus the gentrification. Probably worse than that. I'm not intimately familar with Curtis Bay just that the problems of Brooklyn (which is not an area that is getting better or has a whole lot of promise for doing so in the near future) bleed over into it. Could some streets be okay? Maybe. I really don't know. Brooklyn Park is supposedly a bit better (the west side of Ritchie Highway/Rte 2 and its in Anne Arundel County, not the city, I think).

Violetville isn't a bad area, but it is small and isn't too far from places you wouldn't want to live. A family friend lives there, she considers it rough around the edges but acceptable.
