I need a public transportation or carpool something from downtown to McLean,VA. I drive now and it's insane on gas! Any suggestions?

You are going to have to move. There really is no way around that.

Hey man-you just want to take the Marc train (Penn line or Camden line), it is dooable-but I hear the Camden line is quite unreliable. The tricky part would be getting from DC to McLean.

Depends on what part of McLean.
You could take the MARC Penn line from to Union Station and take metro to NoVA but then you'll probably need to take a bus to reach you're final destination.

WMATA 15K express line click here Metro - Bus - Maps then choose VA. First MARC to union station then use metro red line to metro center then blue or orange to rossyln then 15K express the commute is faster than it looks. I dont know where in mclean ur heading so I will assume this bus will be best http://wmata.com/bus/timetables/va/15kl.pdf or you can use orange to ballston-MU and use 23C. There are several different ways and different buses u can use but assuming ur going at rush hour then 15K will be good enough. Ignore the other suggestions they dont know the transit as well so they cant help you. I however know the transit systems very well for direct link click here http://wmata.com/pdfs/bus/VA.pdf all the info u need. As MARC is the obvious fastest way to get to DC area. from there u just need metro rail then choose the right bus. No need for rideshare here ur commute isn't extreme enough!!! trust me

also get a MARC monthly with transit link.MARC monthly is $175 and transit link is $102 so altogether its $278 which gives you unlimited use on all WMATA and baltimore transit services. how much is gas per month vs $278 on transit commute??

The value of the time commitment also needs to be considered. If it's currently costing her, say, $500 a month in gas for a 1.5 hour daily commute by car each way, is it really worth saving $222 to end up with a 2.5 hours daily commute by mass transit each way? I would't do it.
