Hi Everyone,
My brother-in-law will be in Baltimore for one day before flying back to Europe. His hotel is at BWI. He is looking for a really good wine shop so he can bring a few bottles back with him. Anyone know of a good store that has great selection and fair prices and is fairly close to BWI? Up to an hour's drive is fine. Thanks!! AT ![]() |

The Wine Market in Federal Hill/Locust Point is excellent, and the owner is happy to make suggestions. They also have a wonderful restaurant right there, so if you're hungry... :-) I love the Wine Market!
They're located at 921 E. Fort Avenue (The Foundry, near the Merritt gym) and their phone number is (410) 244-6166. You might also want to try Bin 609 -- I've heard good things, but I've never been there. They're next to the Whole Foods downtown on President Street. |

Bringing US wine back to Europe??
Coals to Newcastle, unless things have improved while we've been over here. That said, I'm from Austin originally, and remember the Llano white and several other vintages rather fondly. We're moving to Frederick, west of Balto, so we'll be sampling local goodies with as open a mind as possible. Currently sipping a Portugese Dao Reserva we spent about 4 Euros for at the Czech border shop (tax free!) and we have all this St Emilion and Alsatian wine we have to drink before we fly. Darn. Sigh, Edge |

A great source for wine is in the Rotunda up in Roland Park/Hampden. Another good source is right off of 36th Street in Hampden.

Yep. And I think it's going to be really nice when it's done. I've been invited inside a couple of times to see their progress, and I like what I see so far. He's going to try to make a wine tasting room in the basement, and I think there will be two apartments upstairs -- one he'll use for himself when he's in town and another that he'll rent to a tenant. I'm really excited -- he owns a nice wine/liquor store in DC already, so he knows what he's doing.

California wine > Texas wine > Maryland wine
We've gone to the last two Wine in the Woods festivals, and we've also been to a few MD wineries, and it seems as though Maryland wine has the rare gem, but is generally not very good. It's usually almost on par with Kool-Aid in terms of sweetness, so I suppose it's okay for those who like dessert wines. I'm one who loves it dry. |

I have been trying to get a peek in there...the bit I can see at the top does look good. Great to hear that you like what you are seeing. Does he know generally when he would HOPE to be finished? |
