Question looking for a place for a swm age 29 near downtown

Just got a job making around $40k a year with CSX RR. As a conductor, i will need to report depending on wear they need me which could be the rail yards near bayview, fells point, or curtis bay. I am looking for a 1 bedroom apt for no more than 700-800 a month, with utilities. Never living in a city, but visiting nyc often and being comfortable in a city is not a problem. But don't want to live in a poor or high crime area and i am not real familiar with bmore, though I've been there many of times. Just looking for suggestions wear a near 30 yr old white male would feel comfortable. Thanks.

Canton would be perfect. The hard part is 1 BR apts are hard to come by in the city. You could easily fInd a house share in that range in Canton though.

Unfortunately that isn't really realistic unless you find a room available on something like Craigslist. $1000 seems to be the base rental price unless you opt for one of the areas you mentioned. You may have some more luck in an area like Dundalk or Sparrow's Point but you wouldn't be in the city.

dundalk is still considered city to me i guess an apt to me includes anything that u don't buy, but pay rent on, not just an apt complex. also, finding a studio wouldn't be bad for me, just want to stay out of the high crime areas, and feel safe, after thinking, i guess being downtown isnt a big deal to me, as i'd rather feel safer and have better parking than having to be right in the city. i'll be on call and have to report to any one of the areas i mentioned ealier within two hours, and thought being in the city would be centrally located.

Not sure about Curtis Bay or Bayview, but Fell's Point may be hard to come by for what you are looking for, although not completely if you are patient and do some serious digging. Mt. Vernon is not that far from Fell's Point, relatively just as safe, and you can definitely find a 1 bedroom w/utilities in your price range.
