Not having window bars and security doors has become an invite for burglary/home invasion. I read an article in the Sun last week about crooks in Pigtown breaking into second and third floor windows that didn't have bars on them. In several cases, they would set a ladder up right on the front sidewalk, climb up to the unsecured windows, break the glass and climb in. Secure all windows and doors!!!

Unfortunately, a lot of the recent burglaries happened in homes where doors or windows were left open or unlocked.

Just remember fire safety if you're putting bars on your windows!!!
You can get them with an interior quick release so you can get out but they're still just as safe as regular bars bolted to the window frame.
Be safe!

cities that are against law abiding citizens carrying concealed weapons are always the safest.

ok- A. WHY do you live in Parkville? It's not the city- technically- and B. Why don't you move to a different part of Baltimore IMMEDIATELY? It's clear you did not do your homework before moving here- &/or that you had/have a terrible real estate agent. Sorry for your troubles- but this city is what you make of it. I've been here for 20 years (& yes I've traveled extensively outside of it) and I still feel the people and the culture are top notch.

I'm trying to figure out what you mean by "the culture?" Do you mean the drug culture, the violent crime culture, the 38% high school graduation rate culture, the corrupt public officials culture, the dilapidated and boarded up rowhouse culture? I'm just trying to get on board with the Baltimore culture thing. Another thing I wonder about is; why do those folks who think Baltimore is great always suggest those of us who don't move out? It can't be out of genuine concern. I guess they want the culture all to themselves.

Hey Bawlmer- I'm starting to get the sense that you haven't found a community or made any friends here in Charm City. Maybe you should step away from your TV, Computer and 5:00 local news and go outside (!) and meet people. Take a walk up Charles St. on a sunny day, look up and see the most beautiful churches and buildings that are recognized and admired by international architects and designers. Pay a dollar and walk up Washington Monument and take in the view. Go to Copra for the best Tequila Chili ever. I guarantee you won't get raped or assaulted. Unless you somehow land on Pratt St. deep in the West Side hood without a car and a wad of cash after midnight. I hope others take what you say with a grain of salt. Miserable and paranoid is a terrible way to go thru life. I've lived here for 20 years and am surrounded by creatives, business owners, families, teachers, musicians, artists- this is the culture- the people and the lives that are building Baltimore and the creativity that has flowed from being able to live out our dreams, own property and enjoy the life we've built.
