Hello guys I'm Alex. I just turned 21 and currently live in Howard County with my mom. I'm hoping to get into UMBC soon and I want to move to the the city. I have a friend who I trust financially who wants to move with me. Our budget is about 800-1000 for a two bedroom apartment, is there anything this cheap in a relatively safe area? It doesn't have to be the best area. We're both 6ft tall and 200lb men, we just want somewhere we can bring friends to without them being too concerned.

I'm also an avid musician. If there are any cheaper neighborhoods that younger/artsy people typically live in that would be great as well.

A lot of broke musicians I know live in either Waverly or Remington. I have some friends in Waverly who rent a 3BR rowhouse with a basement for rehearsing/recording for about 1100, I think.

Boy do you have more options than most. I have a wife to think about so no city for me, and $800 isn't bad if you're not picky. I'm not, but.....look all I'm saying is don't get married...ever.

Options are good. I'd still be living dirt cheep like I was in NC. I'm more broke with than without.

Why? Lots of people have wives in the city. (myself included)

Check out the Remington/Huntingdon area. I know plenty of waiters (oops, I meant musicians!) who live in that area. Rents are still semi-reasonable, and there's enough urban grit/sleaze/perceived danger to appeal to a couple of strapping young lads from Howard Co. HTH

Last time I checked there are lots of married women here in the city. I'd be sad if they all left.
