I find it funny that there are still people as gullible as you. Then one ay you hop on the light rail to catch a ball game with your kid and 5 of those black litle ghetto hoodlums start poking you with a stick. Your opinion will quickly change. I was on the light rail just last week and there was this single white woman sitting by herself listening to her headphones while reading her book. 5 kids hop on and two of them sit behind her one makes her get up so he can can sit next to her and by his buddies and teh other two sit behind me. The whole time their screaming in her ear and hitting her in the head when there reaching over her to hit each other. Give me a break Carolott, you know as well as everyone esle her that these little black and sometimes white little thugs do nothing but screw up this city. I wouldn't want to see anyone walk into this mess.

I use the light rail almost daily and have not had any issues on it. Yes, sometimes the kids can be loud but I stick to the front. Since school ended, I find the light rail to be a very quiet, enjoyable ride. Sorry to hear about the above incident. I hope you reported it to the MTA. The system will only improve when riders voice their concerns and make them aware of problems that occur on it.
The bigger issue for me is the school system sending middle school students across town to attend a middle school when there are schools much closer. I really think kids need to go to school close to home so parents and family can visit and deal with matters that may arise in school. Also, as a sidenote, Robert Poole Middle closed it's doors for the next school year and that should eliminate much of this problem. |

The recent wave of negativism by another poster is intriguing. I was thinking that this board was getting to be amazingly positive.

The fact that some other cities have similar problems is no excuse.
Now, the high homicide rate is not such a reliable indicator-mostly gangsters killing gangsters, and firing the Chief of Police every few months is not going to help that, but the overall disorder in the city is a scandal. Moving to York City is not a viable option-I spent my life working the streets, and York scares me, I wouldn't go there at night without a gun and several pals-bad place, always has been. Try some time in Seattle-the buses run on time, the streets are safe at any reasonable hour and everything seems to work(even the Monorail!). Baltimore has to pull it's socks up, and stop accepting third rate conditions. |

Red Lion is dull-but safe!
Any Baltimore transplants to the Land of the Big Cigar-Red Lion once produced a third of the world's supply of delicious stogies- please, try to bring some life to this town. A local man is buying up properties, hoping to introduce some class here, and he's getting nothing but grief from the stick-in-the-muds. Life in York County is not so different from Baltimore County-and everything is new! As soon as the price of transportation settles(and it will, the demand is too big, and America is now a suburban nation, too late to change that any time soon), York County is going to be blooming. As to what may happen to York, I cannot say, BRAC is going to be a big influence on the region. Ought to be interesting to watch. |

After arriving in Seattle, my nephew insisted on eating at Taco Bell (teenager), so we walked from downtown up to Capitol Hill in search of one around 9 in the evening. While walking, a car pulled over and two guys asked us what we were doing. I explained the situation to them and they gave us a ride to the Taco Bell. They explained to us that they were a "Citizens on Patrol" pair and drove the streets trying to help cut back on recent muggings, etc. Now I know that Seattle's homicide rate is no where near Baltimores but I also know that Baltimore is hosting a league of issues that Seattle has not had to face. The poverty rate in Baltimore is much higher and the effects of the mistakes of past generations are still with us much more. That is no excuse for our homicide rate but it is an explanation. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the Monorail was broke down and in need of repair while we were visiting. Contrary to popular opinion, the grass is not always greener somewhere else. We can go on for days about Baltimore's issues. There is corruption at the highest political office in our land and it runs down to our local governments. We are not alone with these issues. I for one will stay put right here in Baltimore. I see no reason to run somewhere else just to deal with a whole new set of issues. At least I am familiar with Baltimore and know what to expect. And the most important thing is regardless of Baltimore's issues, I happen to like this city and find it very rewarding to live here. Also, in case you haven't noticed, Baltimore has been "pulling up it's socks" so to speak. I have been here for over 20 years and have seen the positive changes. I am so sorry to hear that your life was so miserable here that you had to leave. I guess each person's perspective is different. I just hope that you have none of that "corruption" on your hands seeing as how you worked with and for the local government for so many years. |

Baltimore board votes to close several middle schools
The school board voted to close it. The above link will explain it. |

I hope you read the article in today's Baltimore Sun regarding these murders in Federal Hill. It explains in detail what had occured. This did not happen to innocent bystanders. They were both drug-related as is most of our homicides in the city. You feel it is a "crappy" city: not we feel. |

My hands are clean-that's why I'm poor.
I had to leave because my home was stolen-yes, stolen. Stop making excuses for a city that's not helping its self, just wallowing in the slime. And as for the great jaywalking/limping debate..... The game is called 'cutting the cake', it involves wandering in traffic and showing off how close you can come to being hit. Most of these kids think if they do get hit, that will be a 'suit case', and they'll get money from the insurance company. Wrong-the jaywalker is at fault, no payday, but insurance companies will settle for a small sum, occasionally. Typical self-destructive behavior. A lot of limps come from injecting drugs into the feet and legs, others are from being short with your money when working for drug dealers. First time, shot in the foot, second, in the knee, third, in the head. Like I said, rough town....... |
