I don't know if they sell "mainstream" cakes, but Ace of Cakes is a show on the Food Network which showcases this bakery in Baltimore. The bakery specializes in really extreme cake decorating. Think: Cakes in the shape of seagulls and Capitol Hill. Anyway, people rave about how good the cake is. From watching the show, I am under the impression that they bake regular goods also. You may want to go to Food networks site.

Ace of Cakes is the show the, the actually bakery is called Charm City Cakes. If you go on their website, you can get info on prices and how much time you have to give them and stuff. It's a big expensive, but boy are those cakes incredible!!! I saw them at "The Wire" charity event and the cake they had there was really cool.

Their cakes start at $500. That would be fine for a major event like a wedding, however I'm looking for a good bakery where I can get cakes for smaller events at the office.

Try Patisserie Poupon. The one in DC is better, IMO, but it's still a great bakery.

New System Bakery in Hampden has amazing cakes-

I've only had the white/chocolate cake with icing, but it was perfect-

Also, Piedigrotta on Central Ave. near Little Italy-

Default Bakeries

Lots of people rave about New Systems, but I have never had anything memorable from there.
Another possibility -- pricier but good -- is Bonjour, 6070 Falls Road, 410-372-0238.

Default Here's another one

I have never tried their cakes, but their delicatessen is terrific. One of our weekly favorites. Go and visit.
