I think one of the biggest misconceptions about white residents living in Baltimore is that they are liberal socialist. I actually tend to find more white conservatives inside the city limits than liberals. Now in a more "trendy" city such as Boston or Austin, it usually ends up being the opposite.

Yup in Baltimore. Because we see how social programs turned for the worst.

That is not a "misconception", especially, for those who really know Baltimore and its inhabitants. I know the terrain and the people, and you're a correct this assessment that many white Baltimoreans are quite conservative, insular and provincial, and for me, that is quite saddening. There are Baltimore Blacks who share such sentiments as well... You can't move forward, embrace progressive and innovative ideas with this sort of mindset. It's not impossible, but it's very difficult.

Honestly, Baltimore doesn't care about trendy anything and that is part of the problem.

Baltimore still has a hillbilly/slave internal consciousness, sitting in a vortex of crime and social and moral degeneracy.

Partially disagree! Some of those social programs have really helped people and their families get on their feet.

Some folks want white Baltimoreans to be more progressive and forward-thinking human beings. What parallel universe does that exist in??! Lol.

John Kenneth Gailbraith "The Affluent Society" was written in the 1970's? I like you Hamish Forbes, you reference books.!

We have recently seen this compounded by offshoring and immigration. The next step is for it to move further up the food chain as the result of expert systems and other forms of sophisticated electronics. Galbraith points out that we need to rethink our economic system so as to separate personal survival from employment and labor.

But the real irony of this thread is that Baltimore was once a truly world-class city, even within my lifetime
