If it ends up being a "locals casino" then it will be a mess given who the locals are. Perryville is a locals casino also and it is very civilized. A locals casino in Baltimore City will be very ghetto with lots of thugs and lowlives there. Right now many of the ghetto people from the city and from PG County go to Arundel Mills. When I was there last time these ghetto women started fighting and cussing and security had to come over and make them all leave. It was over a ghetto woman saving a slot machine for her friend who was in the bathroom apparently for 30 minutes and wouldn't let other people sit down. Kudos for someone for telling them to "go back to the ghetto" LOL.

The same will be true of PG County though National Harbor is more likely to be a Vegas style resort that the riffraff of PG County and Southeast DC will not go to. If it becomes a locals casino for PG County and Southeast DC residents it too will be a mess with a lot of people gambling their welfare checks away or gamblign away money that they stole from the last wallet they stole or the last batch of drugs they sold.

Maryland Live should hope that both PGC and Bmore become locals casinos that will draw away their less desirable clientele and make it feel more comfortable for us good regular folks. All of my friends here in Baltimore County who go to casinos have decided that although the city casino will be closer, we will still continue going to Arundel Mills or Perryville. Oh yes and I doubt they will even ahve free parking at the downtown casino the parking situation in Baltimore City is abysmal. The City will try to rip you off with parking fees like they already do.....and they will still continue to ask the state for more taxpayer money to fund their roads and transit.

These are my concerns as well.. Without an upscale hotel being onsite.. I dont see it being a major draw from folks out of state until that occurs. So most will come from within a few hours drive. The other thing to be wary of is things like prostitution. I can see Russell Street or some of the blocks behind Royal Farms becoming "the track" for prostitues looking to pick up a John who wants to spend his earnings... Cops are going to have to stake out those warehouse districts to keep this from happening.

I also read where they plan to have boxing matches there... On the one hand.. that would be good exposure for Baltimore which has a strong boxing history... On the bad side.. fights happen both in and outside the ring.....We dont need to have the next Tupac Shakur level of rapper assassination that happended in Vegas in Baltimore to add to our repertoire

Honestly I could easily see many casino goers bypassing Harrahs in Baltimore and just keep on going to Arundel Mills.

Does anyone know how Harrahs in Chester, PA is doing? That would be my benchmark.

Yikes last time we went to Arundel it seemed like a diverse crowd although we didn't gamble just went to the Cheesecake. Detroit casinos became a victim of ghetto people now I believe one is closed and the other about to be. The civilized folks just went into Canada leaving the Detroit casinos to the dredges of society.

i bet Arundel cant wait for Bmore and PG casinos to siphon off the riff raff

Baltimore gets way more tourists than any other location in Maryland until PG builds one right near DC. They will do well from a convention center just a few blocks away that stays pretty busy, as well as being in the parking lot of two stadiums that have about 100 events a year. Federal Hill has become crazy busy all the time, and they'll certainly get some business flowing over from there.

If all you care about is gambling.. then sure go to Arundel Mills or Perryville, but Baltimore will offer a much better experience. There will be plenty of other things to do around it, great views, and combine the day with a game, play, trip to the harbor or more. A new Hammerjacks concert venue right next to casino will be announced soon, and I know other properties surrounding the casino will be eyed aggressively.

Arundel Mills is what it is... it will be casino for locals. It's nothing but chain restaurants and located directly across the street from a beautiful Burlington Coat Factory. But it will always do well being so close to BaltCo, HoCo, Balt City, PG and in Anne Arundel. The Baltimore will be much more high end, will have views and the downtown feel.

For the record it's not a Harrah's, it will be a Horseshoe which is Caesars highest end brand.

Since it's a Horseshoe I think it will do very well and especially with the stadiums, convention center, general tourism, and etc that will draw the people to it. I'm sure many hotels will have free transportation. The pull from 95 should really help too. If Baltimore can continue to clean up its image then it will just add to the people going there. It might take awhile to draw some people but if people are having a good time there and it's clean then more and more people will go.

I'm sure there will be a dress code or something to keep out the unwanted people.

Hey I believe that anything that will bring in money for the city is a big plus. Also, we need to bring back jobs to the city as well. Overall if it don't make dollars, this it don't make sence. I want another B-Ball team...Go Bmore!!!

No way. They want all the dumpy Inner Harbor tourists they can get. Oversized Snoopy T-shirts and mom jeans and all.

I guess that a casino would be a great addition to the city in the eyes of people who think that Atlantic City and Las Vegas are healthy places.

I think security will be TIGHT in order to keep it safe and successgful.. I recall people speculating that Target at Mondawmin was going to be robbed blind and wouldnt get a "diverse" clientale at that location.. Last I checked.. Target was doing fine.. expanded their grocery section and has a fairly diverse clientale given its location.. That being said.. BPD, Mondawmin Mall Security, and the 'Target Police' on their three wheeled suped up Segway have helped with alot of that.. I imagine the Casino will be no different...Now if you decide to park off of Russell Street over in the warehouse district to save a couple buck and walk over at Midnight with $150 burning a hole in your pocket....... that may be a different story..

Incidentally, Im no gambler but a friend of mine told me that Maryland Live Table games start off at $50 and $100 bets? Yikes.. the criminal temptation to relieve players of their dough will be high....

The primary draw to Vegas and AC is gambling. A downtown Baltimore casino is merely one attraction. I see it as similar to the Harrah's in New Orleans. New Orleans isn't a gambling destination, but it's there if you want it. I've never seen much riff raff in the NOLA Harrah's if any, mainly just tourists. I tend to agree with KLynch.
