It was short downtown (15-20 minutes, morning & afternoon bursts), but it was INTENSE. I work in one of the towers. It was quite disconcerting to see visibility outside my window nearly drop to zero before an ocean of water hammered the area.

I became very concerned this afternoon when a tornado warning crept through the western suburbs of the city, headed toward downtown.

When it comes to weather reporting, I stick with the NWS, having long ago been driven from WJZ by Marty Bass. For Thursday, events DID live up to the hype.

We must thank Jerry Turner and Al Sanders for helping
to usher in broadcast news as we know it today.

They were nice gentlemen to be sure, but they help to
make the news about entertainment instead of information.

I go to the circus to see a clown and I (used to) watch
broadcast news for information about the world around
me.

Thank God for the internet.

Don't forget Richard Sher. A true journalist of high regard.

Don't forget Oprah.

I still remember seeing her on Eyewitness News, wondering how she got a job as a newscaster, and figuring that she'd be gone before long and that I'd never hear about her again.

Boy, was I wrong (unfortunately).

I liked Rolf Hertsgaard.

I've also heard from other folks, that Oprah was not the worlds greatest newscaster.

I guess people liked the "charming chit-chat" that replaced actual newscasting.
