looking for a hair salon (Baltimore: neighborhood, college, maintenance)

Hi all,
I am a Baltimore Newbie, having just moved to the Mt. Vernon neighborhood last weekend. I am looking for a hair salon that is not astronomically priced, but where I can still get a good cut, somewhere that keeps up with current hair styles, etc... I am also wondering if anyone knows of any place that does eyebrow threading. Any information from you ladies out there would be greatly appreciated. Where do you go? What are the prices like there?

Balance on Cold Spring Lane is a great place -- one of their stylists, Barbara, was selected as "Baltimore's Best" by the City Paper a couple of years ago. I think they've had two or three of their stylists get that award.

(And no, I'm not a lady, but my wife loved the place.)

Do you have a car that you're able to get to other areas of the city? I used citysearch.com to find a salon for me to go to. There are a bunch of reviews which is helpful in choosing where to go! And I do remember seeing places that did the eyebrow threading but unfortunately can't remember right now what they were! So try citysearch and that should be helpful!

I go to Fabulous Salon & Spa on Washington Boulevard. Fabiola, the owner, does my hair -- cut and color...and I also get weekly blowouts when I'm feeling "blah". Oh -- I get pedicures there, too. They must be doing something right -- people ask me all the time where I get my hair done.

They don't do eyebrow threading, though.

Tenpachi has $11-15 haircuts, which is a total bargain for the quality. they have been voted the Citypaper's "Best place to Get a Haircut" for the past 5 years. You have to pay more to have them style it for you, but it's still a bargain. There are two locations, one in Charles Village and the other is in Fells Point. I go to the one in Fells, but they're both good. The number is (410) 522-0074. I think there is a web-site too.

I go to Canton Hair Studio. Kristi is my stylist and I absolutely love her, but all of the ladies there are fantastic.

I moved to Baltimore 3 years ago after having the same woman cut my hair from the day I was born until I graduated college, so needless to say I was apprehensive about finding someone new. I tried out a few different salons and wasn't thrilled with them. My hair is not very high maintenance at all, but I just wasn't quite satisfied. And then I went to Canton Hair Studio and it's like Kristi read my mind and knew exactly what I wanted. I will never go anywhere else now.

Also I'm a starving grad student, so trust me when I say the price is right for the quality! It definitely isn't the cheapest cut you can get (the cheaper places were the ones I tried before and was not satisfied with), but it's far from pricey and you get good quality.
