OK, you're on North Point Blvd., just crossed Merritt Blvd. On your right is the Dundalk National Guard armory which I understand is now called the Grollman armory in honor of the ol' Sgt. Major Jerome Grollman -- anyway, you pass the armory.

Right after the armory was a strip mall. At one end was an A&P grocery store; at the other end was a liquor store. In the middle was a Holiday Health Club. I'm wondering whether there is still a gym or health club there and what it's called.

There was until recently a fitness center there but it closed. Bally's Fitness, or one of those. (The A&P, of course, is long gone.) There is a long time rumor that Wal Mart plans to build a Super Store somewhere on the site.

The gym or health club that was there was the Holiday Health Club and opened in the early 1960's. Holiday sold out to a much larger chain, Ballys, back in the late 1980s or 1990s and that location remained open. A couple of years ago, Ballys sold out to LA Fitness and that location remained open for a while. LA Fitness closed that location about a year ago, probably because of the stiff competition from Gold's Gym on Merritt Blvd. That space is now empty, which is really too bad because it had an indoor pool and an outdoor pool. The rest of the shopping center has an Aldi and a Dollar Tree, and a couple of other businesses.

Very interesting. I trained at that Holiday 1970-3. Old timers said that it was originally a Vic Tanny gym, and when Holiday moved in, they used the same equipment, mostly free weights, until they were able to install their own state-of-the-art equipment. Holiday also had an indoor and outdoor pool, probably the same ones used by later occupants.
