Default Young Professional Moving to Baltimore in July

I recently got a job offer from M&T and will be moving to Baltimore in July.

I have begun my research for apartments and have heard a lot of great things. For someone recently out of college what would be the best place to live as far as a social scene. I am looking for a place I can rent for under $1000.

I have heard a lot of great things about Fells Point and Canton. Any other recommendations?

Thanks for your help!

Hm. The "under $1000" part might be a little difficult unless you're willing to share with a roommate or two.

Ah... roommates eh... I think i could do that... do you have any recommendations as far as apartment buildings? I am assuming that these neighborhoods are not full of high rises as I have seen a few pictures.

We moved to a lovely victorian townhouse in Mt. Vernon almost 1.5 years ago and have not had any problems.

It's fastastic to live in the cultural district and we commute to work in Washington DC... we love it.

Don't miss this neighborhood... lots to do, great restaurants... great city living.

Baltimore is a jaded, beautiful city ... and the Mt. Vernon neighborhood is a diamond in the rough! There are many young families not willing to give up on this city- we even have a brand new playground!

and more for your money than Canton and Fells..

Baltimore does have some highrises, if that's something you're interested in. The Harbor East neighborhood on the east side of downtown toward Fells Pt. has a lot of new development (it's almost like an entirely new city). There are also several new or renovated buildings on the west side of downtown near the Hippodrome theater, an area that is still a little rough around the edges but has improved immensely and has a lot of development in the pipeline (the Atrium and Centerpoint are two buildings that I can think of). I'm not sure about price ranges. Mt. Vernon also has a lot of apartment buildings and very large townhouses split into apartments. I think it's pretty reasonable price-wise, although parking can be tough on the street.

Big Country is on a distinguished road
I am also in a similar situation. I am moving to Baltimore in the summer to begin a job in public accounting after college. I have spoke with a few people I know there and they have said that finding anything nice for under $1000/month in the Federal Hill/Canton area would be hard. They recommended I look in some of the suburbs as they might be cheaper. I might recommend the same for you however if I happen to find anything that fits your requirements I will try to post it.
