Default Up or down?

I'd like to believe that the area has nowhere to go but up. Brooklyn/Curtis Bay has an energetic community organization. Unfortunately there are lots of ratty rowhouses, many vacant, that have to be gotten rid of first. Just look at Patapsco Avenue. It is still deteriorating.
There are other issues as well, including all kinds of noxious fumes from nearby chemical plants.
Brooklyn has always wanted to secede from the city and become part of Anne Arundel County. Which brings us to the Anne Arundel side. Some infill housing has been built east of Ritchie highway in recent years. Since many oldtimers are getting really old, something will happen there in coming years. But will it be up or down?
Overall, I think this is an intriguing area. It is close to downtown and, if you live on the AA side, your taxes will be low.

One key is to stay in Brooklyn Park, Anne Arundel County. Not Brooklyn, Baltimore City. There are major development plans in the works for Brooklyn Park, including the hope of getting it approved by the State of Maryland as an official Arts and Entertainment District (hopefully in 2009). If approved, this will bring new investment to the area, and revitalisation. This investment will see a major improvement in the area.. so, maybe now, is the time to buy!

i live in the city part of brooklyn..which i wouldn't recommend only because i have a million problems with my neighbors but i have never felt unsafe otherwise, but that might just be me putting a lot of faith in my security system and my very large dog.

there are some really nice old houses off of route 2 and church street that i believe are in the aa county zone, i don't know what what kind of price range they're in though.

Default Speculation

I would definitly not reccomend Brooklyn Park, City or County. Don't let those big beautiful homes fool you. The Baltimore Sun now has a crime map for anne arundel county based on each week. Spend some time looking at what crimes take place in each area. The Area of Brooklyn has hot spots on each side of ritchie highway. You would be better off using the crime map to find a safe area. Anne Arundel County is expensive, but finally prices are falling and making it more affordable for people with limited incomes.

There are a lot of scheduled improvements for Brooklyn, but on the reverese, there are also talks to re-zoning the area to include it into baltimore county, or baltimore city. Brooklyn is definitly an area to watch, to see which way it falls.

I live in Brooklyn Park right off of Route 2 and I would say that all the problems we have had you can have anywhere you live. There have been a couple times we have had helicopters flying above our house searching for someone and that is a little disturbing but again, that happens other places also. The houses are reasonably priced and hopefully our community will continue to grow to be a safer area.

Down the street from Brooklyn Park Eleem. is a slum. I konw I live there. My gf works at hte 7-Eleven off potapsco, has for 7 years, and in the past half-year they've been robbed 6 times at night. Bad area--don't waste your time moving. Keep the low rent, and just save to get the **** out.

Speaking on the Baltimore City area, I thought about looking at some places down there since the housing in Brooklyn/Curtis Bay is pretty affordable. I drove through there a couple times just to check it out, and it didn't look that bad to me on a late Sat. night or middle-of-the-week evening. The Brooklyn homes area sort of right before you hit Curtis Bay looked a little more run-down, but overall it looked like there were some really nice blocks. It "could be" a great area for people looking to commute to the downtown, but...

Negatives: I read news articles about gang activity in the area and the Baltimore crime map (www.crimebaltimore.com) shows a lot of thefts and robberies in the area. I work in Charles Village so the commute would take me through downtown, the headache is not worth it (traffic from sporting events and harbor events).

In summary, I'll leave you with this:

As for Brooklyn Park, MD, it looks like law enforcement is trying to crack down on crime there.

Link: County police respond to criminal activity -- baltimoresun.com

April 26, 2009
The Anne Arundel County Police Department's Northern District targeted the Brooklyn Park, Pumphrey and Morris Hill areas for a weeklong "Operation No Let Up" in response to complaints of criminal activity and quality-of-life issues, the department said.

From April 13 to April 17, detectives and officers from the Northern District's Tactical Patrol Unit, Tactical Narcotics Team, Police and Community Together, Special Enforcement Team and Eastern District focused on the area.

The program resulted in arrests that included drug and alcohol violations, serving arrest warrants, juvenile citations, traffic violations and a prostitution arrest, as well as the arrest of two juveniles operating a stolen vehicle. There also were 20 state traffic citations, 88 traffic warnings, seven parking tickets, seizure of 31 sets of fraudulent or suspended registration plates, tagging of 68 vehicles for possible towing because of registration violations and improper parking, and 22 warnings of potential zoning complaints.

Drugs were also seized, including $1,600 worth of cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana and heroin, as well as several prescription drugs being used illegally.

More Brooklyn, Baltimore news...

3 held in attempted shooting of family

By Liz F. Kay
March 31, 2009

Baltimore police officers arrested three suspected Anne Arundel County gang members and recovered three guns after the attempted shooting of a family in Brooklyn on Sunday night, a police spokesman said.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire near Baltic Avenue and Fifth Street about 8 p.m. They found a Ford Explorer that had been shot several times, as well as numerous shell casings, said police spokesman Officer Troy Harris. Southern District officers found the three suspects leaving a Ford Crown Victoria on West Meadow Road, just over the Anne Arundel County line in Brooklyn Park.

Police said they also recovered marijuana, an assault rifle, a .25-caliber semiautomatic handgun and a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun from the car's trunk. The three, suspected Bloods members, have been charged with attempted murder and handgun violations, Harris said. They are Perry Lee Jennings, 22, of the 7800 block of Levy Court, Pasadena; Albert Westmoreland, 18, of the 7800 block of Jaki Terrace, Glen Burnie, and Dominque Laring, 17, of the 7800 block of S. Hampton Drive, Glen Burnie. They were to have bail reviews Monday before a District Court commissioner. Police were investigating motives for the shooting, Harris said.
