Default where to live as a post grad?

I'm from NY originally, goto school at the university of delaware and I just got a job offer from a company in Baltimore. I don't really know much about Baltimore besides the inner harbor so my question is that if I were to take this job and live in Baltimore, where would be a cool, safe and fun place to live in Baltimore for a 20-something? The only neighborhood that popped out to me was Federal Hill, but I still don't know much about it or how much housing might run me.
Also as another thing for my job I'd need to be able to have my car, I'm not really sure if there are many people who live in Baltimore without a car as compared to NYC, but it's still something I need to think about. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

First, it is very difficult to live in Baltimore without a car. I hope that this fact will one day change, but for now, the public transportation is not the greatest.

Federal Hill is a good place for a 20-something. There are several other neighborhoods that might be a good fit as well. See this post:

Are you looking to buy or rent? I haven't checked craigslist rental ads in a while, but I believe a two bedroom rowhouse in Federal Hill or Canton starts at around $1400 and can go up from there depending on the house. If you're looking to buy, prices have definitely slid back some compared to this time last year.

We moved to a lovely victorian townhouse in Mt. Vernon almost 1.5 years ago and have not had any problems.

It's fantastic to live in the cultural district and we commute to work in Washington DC... we love it.

Don't miss this neighborhood... lots to do, great restaurants... great city living.

Baltimore is a jaded, beautiful city ... and the Mt. Vernon neighborhood is a diamond in the rough! There are many young families not willing to give up on this city- we even have a brand new playground!

and more for your money than Canton and Fells.. a great neighborhood to invest in!
