Default Moving to MD Please help

I will be transferring to Morgan State University. I am having a hard time finding an apartment near the school. Many say don't live in the city of Baltimore because there are a ton of bad areas. What are good and safe places to stay to live near Morgan? I don't want or need nothing more than an hour commute to school. I am looking to spend up 800/mo for rent or less. Please help!!!!! Thanks

Bumping for answers. I am wondering about the same thing, since I will be attending Morgan in the Fall.

Default Area around morgan state

The area around Morgan State is pretty safe by Baltimore standards. This is a good web site to let you know what you might be getting into:http://www.burgersub.org/shootings2k7.htm. It has crime statistics collected from the Baltimore pd website. Maps of shootings make a lot more sense to look at than maps of murders. Baltimore's murder rate would likely be much higher if it did not have such fine medical institutions. I also attached another picture collected from http://baltimorecrime.blogspot.com/; it shows gang activity in 2006. Granted things are probably different now. I live near morgan state off of argonne, and I have never had any problems.
