Hello I would like some honest feedback from everyone who has moved to Baltimore Maryland from another state and also from persons who actually have lived there for 5 years or more.

Background: It will myself and my husband and two son middle school age and elementary (1st grade by time of the move) We are leaving Florida. We will not have a car at first so places near the MARC will be greatly appreciated. Also an info you can give me on schools, cost of living jobs etc. will be greatly appreciated. We are looking to move Spring/Summer 2015 so we have lots of time to do lots of research which is what I like to do.

Moved here from New Mexico in 2008 and love it. I don't have children, so I can't speak on life for families.

You need to fill us in with your budget and must haves. Do you want to live in an apartment or rent a house? Scan previous posts, most if not all of the information you need is there.

It is pretty difficult to live in Maryland without a car. It's doable, but you will likely be limited to Baltimore City. Also, the cost of living in Maryland is pretty high.

I am a Maryland transplant from the Midwest and am expert at relocating in unfamiliar areas I moved here last year, though this is the 3rd time I've lived in Maryland (husband is military) so it feels like "home" to us. I also have school aged children; its a fun area to raise kids. First, I see you want to be near the MARC; where is the primary breadwinner's job? Any idea of housing budget? Its a difficult area to not have a car, but hopefully someone who has experience with that will chime in.

I wish they OP had said where the husband's job will be. I have ridden the Camden line before, and it is hard to find an area where one can walk to a train station. The St Denis/Relay is the best prospect for walking to a train. Catonsville is also possible to take a bus to a station. Catonsville has decent elementary schools. I honestly hope they acquire one car before arriving, so the wife can drop off the husband at the station.

If the husband were working at Ft Meade, there are options like buses instead of the train.

if you are smart you will move to a state that borders Maryland. Our taxes are among the highest in the US, and our Politician love to charge for any and everything you do here.
