jonjj,
As I recall, you are the one who gets into a tizzy and burns up google searching for some link to an obscure book or something everytime I post something you disagree with. You are the one who can't stay on topic and must attack me personally. I don't understand how anyone can take you seriously while you talk out of both side of your mouth. How can you beseech people to stay positive while at the same time personally attack someone who disagrees with you? You're comments infering various things about me are all incorrect and only prove that you can't take your own advice. PS: My condolences on your advancing dementia.

It is always fun finding facts to disprove your obscure opinions--hence, the search. And thank you in advance for your condolences.

I'm curious how you disprove an opinion? An opinion is just that, not subject to proof or disproof. Although, if you had a cogent argument you may be able to change my opinion.

And, if my opinions are so obscure; why do you have to search so hard to find your answers? Anyone who's been to Baltimore knows there is no architecture of significance ( except for the stunning new First Mariner Bank Building or the Natty Boh Tower) in Baltimore. They don't need an obscure book to tell them there is.

Again, the "eye of the beholder" seems to apply. If what you see in Baltimore is interesting to you, then God bless.

One of my best friends lives on Patterson Park in an grand 3 story townhouse- facing the park. She's been there for about 5 years without incident. It's really lovely- she walks the park with a friend every morning, we go to the concerts in the summer and her house is amazing. Do check the Patterson Park threads on this site- there are a lot of people championing for this neighborhood. Butcher's Hill as well. In my 20 years- honestly the only place my car has ever been broken into was Towson when I was in school (a very long time ago) and it was because I naively left my purse in the back seat. It is advisable to not leave ANYTHING in your car of remote value in ANY city. That's just common sense. By the way- Kelly's Bar is no winner either. Anyone who chooses to set up camp there has (in my opinion) bad taste. If he had said Henningers (great place) or Peter's Inn I would have given him some props. So... just keep that in mind.

And since Bawlmer's on the subject of architecture, I happened to be at the AIA event on Saturday- what's that? The American Institute of Architects (Baltimore chapter- yes it's true). I mentioned this moronic debate about Bawlmer's opinion of the lack of architecture to a friend who is an ARCHITECT and he laughed and went on to mention The Brown Building at MICA, the newest building at UofB on Maryland and Mount Royal- both superior in modern design and the old guard- Penn Station, ALL of Bolton Hill, Resevoir Hill. Mt. Vernon. The list goes on and on. It's unfortunate that the only recognizable form of architecture in Bawlmer's mind is the DEATHSTAR- Ed Hale's (1st Mariner) horrible new money piece of crap on Boston street. Do you walk around with your eyes closed Bawlmer? Do you walk around at all?

Baltimore does indeed have an active AIA chapter, and I daresay it's a fun group...if you're into architecture and the geekery that surrounds it.

Bet there was a big crowd at that meeting. You all continue to make my point. Penn Station? If there is anything of importance in that decrepit building, no one would stick around long enough to see it. Did your friend mention the Baltimore architects who designed the First Mariner Building? That's probably why he was laughing at you.

Actually- it was a packed house. Quite fun. Ok- as I said before to say that the 1st Mariner bldg is representative of Baltimore architecture is like saying Sbarro hotdogs represent all of NY's culinary scene. (I like Sbarro hotdogs way more than that crap of a building- but you get my point here) You're kidding right? The architects who designed that piece of doodoo are WBCM they basically are builders of these fabricated banal shopping centers and other new construction monstrosities. There's nothing innovative about their designs. It's obvious that Ed Hale wanted to plant his ego on the water and wanted it tall and looming- just big enough to block the sun from those sunbathing at the Merritt Athletic Club pool- and he wanted it cheap. Now- for something more interesting, look at the folks who built the Brown Center at MICA: ZIGER/SNEAD or Murphy & Dittenhafer - they're the people who built the awesome student center at UofB. And- are you suggesting Bawlmer- that the city tear down the nearly 100 year old Beaux-Arts train station and build a new one- hey- maybe your friends from WBCM can build one and make it look just like the Avenue in White Marsh! Fun!

It should be obvious to anyone visiting this site that a poster that has a sensational one-sided view of city is not credible. A city of over 600,000 people and 92 square miles is not all good or all bad and can not be summed up by generalize statistics, ancedotal evidence, or inflametory rhetoric.

By responding to these posts we are just feeding a troll that is only intersted in satisfying their own angst and disappointment rather than truly providing an informed, balanced position of the topic.

No. I'm suggesting they spend a little money stopping the rust and rotting, clean off some of the grime and maybe the will have a beautiful rennovation like DC's Union Station.

My firends? Who's the one hanging out at the Baltimore AIA. Your logic again escapes me.
