Advice on housing near bayview & n. wolfe J.H.hospital
hey everybody,
my friend and i are relocating from san diego, ca to work at johns hopkins as nurses. we are working at the bayview and the main campus off of n. wolfe. one of us has a car and the other wants to use public transportation. i have been hearing mixed reviews regarding the public transportation and on housing.
can i get some suggestions for what transportation to use and where to live? we were thinking somewhere "down town" would be the easiest, but just have no clue on where. i know the area right around the hospital is sketchy.... I have looked at several high rise apartment buildings because we are going to have to do "short term" leases.
any advice would be appreciative and helpful! thanks...

Patterson Park
If you search for Patterson Park on this forum, you will get lots of information about a neighborhood that would suit you fine.
Another possibility is Mount Vernon. But I would go with Patterson Park.

Johns Hopkins runs a very popular shuttle through Butchers Hill (neighborhood next to the Patterson Park neighborhood) which is east and a little south of the hospital. There is a stop on the unit block of N. Patterson Park, in fact. This would be easily walkable from any of the streets running north of the park. Just make sure that for housing you don't go past the 100 block.

Hi:
I own a property in the area that I am going to rent w option to buy in Patterson Park (in btwn JHH main campus and the Bayview facility). It is on the public transportation route and a car would be very convenient.
Full,Rehab, 3BDRM, 4BA (2F,2H), great Kitch/Baths (granite), Fin Rec Rm, HW Floors, Berber in Rec Rm, Rooftop Deck, Surround Sound, Alarm System.
Are you moved here yet, anyone else that you know might have an interest?

San Diego to Baltimore...whatever possessed you? I don't know where to begin. Forget about public transportation. Folks are getting beat down on the MTA busses by appointment only. Forget about having a car too. There's no place to park. If you decide to bring a car, get yourself a big roll of clear plastic and some duct tape for when your windows get broken out. Better yet, go ahead and break the windows out yourself and tape them up. That will save you the inconvenience of discovering it early one morning. Oh and don't even think about biking or walking up to JHH, at least without a flak vest. Patterson Park is OK...well, just stay away from the north side...and the east side and, well a cop was shot in the center of the park last spring so you really got to watch the park itself too. There's a long list of reasons not to live in Baltimore. Do yourself a favor and search the Baltimore forum.

: I have a good friend who moved from San Diego to DC to work at Georgetown University. She hated DC. I won't go into the reasons but eventually took a position in Baltimore at Hopkins in their labs. She loves it here and ended up buying in Butchers HIll to be close to work. So, to each his or her own on opinions of transferring from one town to another.
Also, if it helps at all, I have a brand new car that I park on the street by Patterson Park and have never had a problem. Most don't at all so don't let all of that negativity get to ya. I also walk up to Hopkins to catch the metro sometimes and never had any sort of negative issue occur. Patterson Park is a great choice for Hopkins employees.

You lead a charmed life my friend. I was sitting in Kellys the other day listening to a friend talking about the 3 times her house had been broken into this year and the two windows she had replaced on her vheicle so far. She lives in Upper Fells. You must have the magic.

Perhaps a more relivable source for information would be a newspaper or community association rather than getting drunk at a bar? Maybe that is why you seem so sad.
Oh, how I remember those bar stories. Lovely.

I teach in the Patterson Park area...and obviously talk to many of the parents who live in the area everyday. I would say well over 85 to 90% of them are extremely happy. A couple of them have had their car broken into. If I were to start all over again...I would buy in the Patterson Park area.

It sad that whenever a bar is mentioned you think of getting drunk.
