i lived in fed hill for 2 years and looked at 101 wells when i was moving - it's a very nice place and and easy walk to fed hill and locust pt bars. it wouldn't be bad to walk to work either. the only thing about the 101 wells is the streets of south fed hill are dingy and dirty but it's only a few blocks till it's nicer - i would have moved into 101 wells if it had worked out with my timeline. like other's have said, i wouldn't move to the other side of town, fells point/canton b/c driving through the city sucks. i live in brewers hill, which is right near canton and i have an easy commute to locust point/tide point each day b/c i take the fort mchenry tunnel (95).

Hi mrenee,
I just wanted to put my two cents in about your question. I live in Federal Hill and go to school at UMB and find that it is no trouble getting there in the morning. Federal Hill is not East Baltimore it is South, so actually Pratt Street runs the wrong way. There are back roads that you can take to Camden Yards that will get you there in 10 minutes or less if you are driving. When I was looking for housing, I did not want to be anywhere near MLK boulevard because of the area. Ridgely's Delight is in West Baltimore, near MLK, and while it is not the worst neighborhood in the world, I feel like Federal Hill is significantly safer. I have also recently looked into 101 Wells because my roommate might be selling her home. I will tell you that from the website it seems like a good deal because the rent includes parking (a major advantage). There is another apartment complex called Harbor Hill Apartments on Warren Ave. They are much more expensive than 101 Wells. The disadvantage of 101 wells is that it is a pretty good walk to the bars. I would say about 10 blocks or so whereas Harbor Hill is only two blocks and is right across the street from the inner harbor. Harbor Hill also has an amazing rooftop deck that overlooks the harbor and Federal Hill. Parking in their gated lot requires a fee in addition to the rent. Hope that helps. Good luck!

I have been in both 101 Wells and the Zenith. Both are nice- but very different. I would say the Zenith is more posh and def. closer to Camden Yards- but there's really not much else there except the bars around the stadium. When baseball season is over- there won't be much else to do around there. (Well, football season begins, so if you're really into sports- that could be a good thing) 101 Wells is off Federal Hill- way south of the main drag- (it feels like the end of the line really- I guess it is...) but there are a few new restaurants there like Rub- (a new, modern bbq place) and it's a quick hike to The Bicycle (a very chic bar/restaurant on Light St.) and Fort Ave. which have some good bars (Idle Hour is a favorite)- but not much for shopping or other forms of life. (Baltimore is known for corner bars- there are a ridiculous amount of them!) If you're young and new to the city, Federal Hill is a good place to be. 101 Wells will have a lot of young professionals living there- and because of its proximity to 95 probably a lot of DC commuters. If you have the budget, you may also want to look into the Harbor East area. It's closer to Fells Point, Little Italy and more stuff, but not too far from Cam Yards.

I'd recommend the 101 Wells area of Fed Hill. I live in a rowhome around the corner on Charles St and I like the area. It's a 10 minute walk to all the pubs and restaurants, and although some of the streets around there are kinda dirty, Charles is a clean and safe walk. It is a 1/2 hour walk to Camden Yards, but if you have a bike it'll go quickly.

It sounds like you're set on an apartment, but renting a rowhome might be reasonably priced and more spacious. Some are split into two levels / separate apartments. Contact the local real estate agents, many people list thru them.
