101 Wells or others?
Hi,
I just found out I am relocating to Baltimore in a week and a half and I have never actually been to the city. I am hastily trying to find an apartment. Does anyone know anything about 101 Wells located at 101 E. Wells Street? I know there was a post about this apartment complex earlier this year, but not many responses were given. I can't find any ratings on this apartment, so I was hoping that some of you might know about it.
Basically, I am a young professional, looking for a 1 bedroom. I will be working at Camden Yards and would like to remain fairly close to the stadium. I also would like to be in a safe, but trendy and fun, part of time. Based on reading this site and others, I am fairly certain that Federal Hill, Fell's Point and Camden would be good areas for me.
If you know of other apartments you think I might be interested in, I would greatly appreciate that information as well.
Thank you so much in advance.

I honestly don't know much about East Baltimore, but if you're going to be working at Camden Yards, have you looked at places in Ridgely's Delight? You'd be right at the stadium -- a stone's throw away with an easy walk. It's a pretty neighborhood with an active community association.

Geography
I second the sentiments of Carol Ott. If you go through downtown, there is only one way to go to East Baltimore and that's Pratt Street. A nightmare. An even bigger nightmare is to get from East Baltimore back on Lombard.
So looking for something near your place of employment makes sense. Just my two rubles.

I have heard that the apartments in 101 Wells are decent. It's in the neighborhood of South Baltimore, just south of Federal Hill. You'd be able to walk to work, but it would take you about 20-25 minutes. I don't recommend living in Fells Point if you're working at Camden Yards. It's on the other side of the harbor, and there are other great places closer to your work.
So while 101 Wells wouldn't be a bad option, definitely look into the neighborhood of Ridgely's Delight (as suggested by carolott and barante). It would be an ideal location for you, with an extremely short (walking) commute. Check craigslist for rental options. If you prefer a highrise building, perhaps look into the Redwood building. It's on the West side of downtown near the University of MD hospital.

I GREATLY appreciate all of the replies. I should have been more specific, though, in saying that I am looking for an apartment complex as opposed to a row home or something of that nature. Living by myself, I'm thinking a large apartment community would be better.
Also, I don't necessarily feel as though I need to be extremely close to Camden Yards, more or less just convenient. I was really interested in the Federal Hill neighborhood for that reason.
I do appreciate you telling me that the commute from 101 Wells would be difficult.
I've requested information from the Redwood...thank you for that recommendation.
Please continue to respond, like I said, I've never been to Baltimore so I appreciate all the help you can give. Thank you!!

Locust Point
I took a walk today through Federal Hill. For Sale signs galore.
I bit further is Locust Point, whose best asset is Fort McHenry, a great place for walks and jogging. You might want to see whether anything is available in apartments there.
There are also apartment complexes near Hopkins/Homewood campus. That area has much improved. Good luck.

The commute from 101 Wells really wouldn't be too difficult--it's south of Camden Yards, not on the east side of downtown. It's basically about as far south in Federal Hill as you can before you hit I-95 (it's actually South Baltimore, not Federal Hill, although realtors probably refer to it as Federal Hill). It's a nice-looking building. You'd probably have about a 20 minute walk. The area has improved tremendously, but the neighborhood around the building might be a little dicey at night. You probably could find an apartment building closer near the U. MD campus on the west side of downtown. I've been in the Redwood--it's pretty nice.

Can you guys think of any apartments in Federal Hill that would work? I've read some apartment ratings, but they are all so negative.
Is it still a consensus that I shouldn't look at Fell's Point if I'm going to be working at Camden Yards?
THANK YOU AGAIN! THIS IS SO HELPFUL!

There is an apartment house or two on Warren Avenue in Federal Hill, right across from Federal Hill Park (great location). Try looking for Harbor Hill apartments.
If I'm not mistaken, the building next to Holy Cross Church was turned into apartments. 100 block of E. West Street.
Federal Hill contains mostly rowhouses, and some condo buildings. There are probably some other apartment communities scattered throughout the neighborhood, but keep in mind they will be on the small side.

There are two apartment buildings in Ridgely's -- they're small, but very secure. If you go to the Ridgely's website and email the association president, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to give you the info. I'm pretty sure both are in the 600 Block of Washington Boulevard, but I'm not sure of their exact street numbers.
Back to Fells Point....yeah, I think it would be a pain to work at Camden Yards and come from Fells Point. I live very close to Camden Yards (right across MLK from Ridgely's Delight) and that would be an unpleasant commute from that side of President Street. There are two really nice apartment buildings on Pratt that aren't far from Camden Yards -- definitely within walking distance. One is Greene House Apartments: http://www.thedonaldsongroup.com/greenhouse/main.html and the other is The Sailcloth Factory: http://www.historiclandmarks.com/sailcloth/ . The Sailcloth Factory is technically on S. Fremont, but it's very visible from MLK (which runs almost parallel) and...I believe Pratt Street. Both are big buildings, and again - very secure.
