I have double pane windows and insulated sliding /front doors. The decorative glass window pane over the door is not insulated. The central air vents are insulated as well. My energy usage ranges from 290kwh to 1000 kwh per month with the average being 490kwh/month. The total cost per kwh is about 15cents/kwh
My townhouse interior 17 feet wide and about 32 feet deep.
My last PEPCO bill total cost (after taxes) per kwh is about 16 cents/kwh.

Here is my detailed energy usage over the last year or so

Jan08=840kwh,Feb08=750kwh,Mar08=1020Kwh,
Apr08=630kwh,May08=330kwh,Jun08=300kwh,
Jul08=420kwh,Aug08=450kwh,Sep08=290kwh,
Oct08=270kwh,Nov08=250kwh,Dec08=490kwh,
Jan09=690kwh,Feb09=830kwh

I live alone so - I am not using that much energy.
My average usage over the last 12 months is about
498 kwh/month.

My long term goal has been to reduce
my townhouse electric usage to about
300kwh/month with a peak usage at
about 600kwh/month - this usage level
would make a 1.2Kwh PV array more
viable ( a 1.2kwh is about the largest
PV array that could fit on my rooftop).

During the winter to lower your cost you can turn down your thermostat to 55 degrees Farhenheit before you go to sleep. You can survive the cold by bundling up under several layers of clothes. Thermal underwear is probably the most flexible insulation you can get - the thinest and best thermal underwear is sold in sport shops for skiers of all people. The most cost effective thermal insulative clothing are sweatshirts and sweatpants; Putting on multiple layers of sweatshirts and sweatpants with each layer being one size larger can allow one to survive near freezing cold (atleast in an informal situations). When you go to sleep - the most effective way to stay warm beyond being under several layers of blankets is to use an electric blanket (120 to 65 watts/hour).

my current energy usage(Pepco @ 15.9cents per kilowatthour)
is as follows:

Jan08=840kwh,Feb08=750kwh,Mar08=1020Kwh,
Apr08=630kwh,May08=330kwh,Jun08=300kwh,
Jul08=420kwh,Aug08=450kwh,Sep08=290kwh,
Oct08=270kwh,Nov08=250kwh,Dec08=490kwh,
Jan09=690kwh,Feb09=830kwh, Mar09=550kwh.

I could still improve my energy usage:
-------------------------------------------
upgrade windows to energy star/triple pane/heat mirror (U rating of .21 to .09)
upgrade patio doors to energy star/triple pane/heat mirror (U rating of .21 to .09)
upgrade vinyal siding to insulated vinyl siding ( increase side walls insulation by R-5)
switch from a 60 gallon tank water heater to a tankless/ solar water heater
install a thermostatically controlled attic fan ( for summer cooling only)

Your bill is low if it includes heat. Do you heat with gas or electricity, or with oil?
