What are you paying for BGE ?
Hi all. I'd like to get a sense of how much folks are actually paying for BGE, particulary for renters. Everyone's place and usage is different but I am curious to know some general totals billed.
For example...I have a large (5 levels, 5400 sq ft) rowhome divided into 3 apartments. I pay the heat bill for all of the units. Last year, the winter low bill was about $500 and the high bill was about $1600 . (I'm praying for a mild winter!) Each 1 BR apartment (1200 sq ft) electricity bill typically cost $35 in winter and $80-100 in summer (AC running).
If anyone responds, give me some basics...size of your house/apartment, total costs for BGE, (what BGE is included in your rent if you're renting), summer vs winter. Thanks!

I have a 1200 SF rowhome and high bills in the winter run around $200, low around $70. Summer the highest bill I received was around $150, low around $60. My house is all electric, no gas.

Sounds like you're in line with my experience (and that of many of my friends). I've got 3,000 square feet on three floors and had a high of $900 and low of $400 for my combined gas/electric bills last winter. I put in several new replacement windows the previous year and it didn't seem to lower the amount of gas I used but it did make the rooms more comfortable so it was worth it. I also locked in rates with WGE for two years as I didn't want to deal with the market swings with BGE.

I live in a approx. 1600 sq. foot 2 story rowhouse. Typically the BGE bill is about $120 in the summer with the AC running and it seems to be about $70 in the winter with the new rates. I have oil heat separate from BGE and a budget plan, which is about $190 a month, so I guess my total cost is about $310 in the summer and $160 in the winter.

We have a 2200 sq ft townhome, gas range, electric heat. Our bill was $425 for December. We keep the setting between 72-74 because we have a newborn. Painful.

Electricity bill in Dallas..
We just received our electricity bill for December overlapping a couple of days in Nov and Jan. I was shocked to see it was $240. We live in a 2 bed 2 bath second floor apartment of around 1100 sqft. Total kWh for 34 days was 1805, up from about 1050 last year same time (minus 3 days).
We have no excess usage really, just the usual with washer (maybe 12 loads/month), dishwasher and dryer. We try (or at least I) to conserve the use of the heater which is electrical. We have checked with neighbors in the same complex and theirs are pretty high as well. When I checked with a friend in DC living under the same conditions as us he told me their last bill was $70. I thought their would be higher due to the colder climate.
When I checked the average price per kWh Texas ended up very close to the national average. To me that just doesn't seem to add up. Are we texans being screwed over by the companies here? I understand a high bill in the Texas heat during the summer, but this is to me simply insane. Am I the only one to think so?

I have a 2,100 square foot rancher (with a full basement), with excellent insulation but single-pane windows (with plastic stretched over many of them). We keep the daytime temp at 67; night-time at 64. My wife uses an electric heater in her bedroom. In the summer, the airconditioning is usually set at 81 degrees, which removes the humidity and keeps the house comfortable. Our monthly year-around bills for gas (furnace, water heater) and electricity (kitchen) average $250 a month.
I replaced the entire heating/airconditioning system, which was about 20 years old, a year ago in October. I've been racking up savings ever since, compared to our earlier bills.
