*I pulled this old May/June 2004 article from the now-defunct, Urbanite Magazine, that highlighted Baltimore's newcomers and some of the positive/negative experiences they've encountered here in Baltimore (US in general). Their responses are quite interesting and introspective about how Baltimoreans deal with new arriving immigrants. Enjoy and let's discuss!

Patterson Park is nice! I will give you that much. I attended that weak a$$ Latino festival a few years back, but I see it as an up and coming neighborhood. I know a few Puerto Ricans and Dominican families who moved down here from New York who've had some good things to say about Patterson Park.

Urbanite was a good free magazine. Baltimore needs more diversity.

If the Jewish communities stayed on the West and East sides in conjunction with today's North and South Baltimore, the city would be something different.

It's not a matter of communities welcoming new immigrants. New immigrants are seeking economic opportunities (jobs) and go to viable (cheap housing, basic services available, etc.) new areas.

One of the participants in the article spoke to the fact of the mentality of Baltimoreans and how shallow it is. Any response?

It's always a matter of "welcoming" anyone who's occupying spaces in your communities.
