Did you know that Maryland is one of three states in the nation that permits criminals to be released from prison after completing half of their sentences ? Most states require prisoners need to complete 75% of their time and a few states require that prisoners have to serve all of their sentence. You can thank our legislators for that.

You seem to think that longer terms of incarceration has some impact on anything.

MD's judiciary is lenient. Sometimes the simple goal of incarceration is to keep the dangerous from hurting society. If John Alexander Wagner was in jail like he was supposed to be, Stephen Pitcairn would not have been robbed and murdered.

You're lucky I'm not in a position of power. I believe in the proper/correct use death penalty and mass execution of dangerous criminals and crime syndicates (that includes corrupt politicos, judges, cops, lawyers).

That may be a wee bit extreme...

The problem I had with O'Malley abolishing the death penalty in MD is that often the DP is used as leverage to get defendants to plead out, thus saving everyone time and money while trying to get some justice. With that threat gone, its much harder to get convictions, and in this merry go-round judicial state, people that should not be on the street get back out on it. Besides, unless you're talking Texas, the DP is pretty cunmbersome to actually use...

Now all you have to do is actually prosecute and get convictions on this class of criminal.
