I am relocating to the Baltimore area on Tuesday from Phoenix, yes, I said Tuesday. I am looking to rent an apartment on a short term lease that would not be too far a commute to the Linthicum/BWI area where I will be working. Any recommendations on a safe area, nice apartment complex, etc. would be greatly appreciated. I have looked at the Columbia and Ellicott City area on the internet, but haven't been able to find out too much info. So, if anyone could offer advice that would be great. Also, the complex must allow dogs.
Thanks! |

Columbia or Ellicott would be great choices!!
I live in Columbia, so I can give you more information on it than Ellicott. Columbia is probably one of the most conveniently set up town's I've ever encountered. Even the bad areas are okay in comparison to other places. The one true "bad" area I've seen is Stephen's Forest. I'm sure there may be others. It's such a subjective thing, as your preferences and dislikes are apt to be different from someone elses. Also, expect to pay $1,000+ for a 1 bdrm. apt. Columbia has lots of parks, public swimming pools, golfing, tennis, trails, etc. Check out the Columbia Association for more info. Overall, you can't go wrong with Columbia. |

Well, it's Thursday, so you must be here in Maryland already. Did you find a place?
It's not easy to find a landlord that will accept pets. Rather than live in a rental complex, you might want to consider a privately owned condo or townhouse. Sometimes a private owner will allow pets. If your pet is under 20 pounds, you have a greater chance of renting than if your pet is larger. Also, it's a buyer's market so there are some vacant condos and townhouses out there that are listed for sale. Those owners might consider renting, if asked, or you might want to consider buying with no money down. [moderator cut] Last edited by Mike from back east; 11-30-2006 at 10:44 PM.
