Um Druid Hill Park is safe for running during the day. I have also run with a group at dawn there multiple times before, and it was fine. I still go there sometimes. There is a police installation in the park near the zoo, also, if you're still concerned. I've lived in Baltimore City (Mt. Washington), Baltimore County (Pikesville), and now Howard County; I've been in Maryland since 2011. Also Baltimore Road Runners Club is a great group; I am a member. They put on some cool races.

I'm a member of an all women running group, and we have run from DHP into Hampden, even as far as Lake Montebello. We've also run in the opposite direction through Reservoir Hill into Mount Vernon, even to MLK and the Inner Harbor.

You have your guard up in any city at night. Women, unfortunately, have to have their guard up all the time, and living in Baltimore is not what makes this so. I live in a "good" area and still, rarely run alone because I'm a woman and creepers abound.

Hello, sorry for keeping myself quiet for a long time. At one point, I was panking for not being able to find a place that has everything I was looking for. At the end, I have picked the place in St Paul St. that has off-street parking (although I am n wait-list). So far so good, I understand the comments that Federal Hill or Canton would be a safer bet, but aside from the fact that these places are ~$200 pricier for comparables, I fell in love with old buildings in Mt Vernon/Mid-town area.
I have given up on early morning running and got a gym membership.
As for Park Ave "scary area", I think I mixed up south and east, I was refering to Park Ave closer to downtown (around Baltimore or Lombart St.).
Thank you everyone for responding my questions -- it was really helpful. I have other concerns regarding my commute, but that would be separate thread. Thanks again!
