I've gotten the same phone call three times in the past two weeks: "Hey, this is Tommy. Is (insert name) there? Oh, never mind. I got the wrong number". The messages have been identical, with the short pause and click before the message as if it's an automatic dialer. The originating phone numbers have been different each time; one from Baltimore, one from Westminster, and the other unknown. Since this is (at least) the third time, I'm thinking someone is up to no good...Maybe they traced the number to the address and are casing it to determine if anyone is home? Just don't know who to report it to.
Just wondering if anyone has gotten these messages too?

Yes, me too. I turned off my ringer! These appear to be robocalls. I assume that they are autodialling to find out if someone picks up. Autodiallers can dial thousands of numbers at a time to work their way through all possible telephone numbers in your area. If the calling number keeps changing, it means that it is a VOIP call that fakes the calling number. It can be coming from anywhere, probably overseas. The usual purpose of this call is to find out if there is a real person there and what time they are most likely to answer the phone. It could be to set you up for a telemarketer, or a scammer, or a "charity" (i.e.quasi-scammers exploiting technical legal loopholes), or a poll/survey.

You didn't mention if you got calls on a landline or on a mobile phone.

If these are coming in on your landline, check out https://www.nomorobo.com/. It's free for landlines. There's a small monthly charge for iPhone. It's not currently available for Android. The user can set up a Whitelist to allow robocalls from local schools, doctors, libraries etc. It will block political calls but not actual charities.

If these are coming in on your Android mobile phone, check out the HiYa app. This should block the robocall and report it to a database. Meet Hiya: Whitepages Spins Off Caller ID Business With Mission To Fight Robocalls, Spam Texts Worldwide
