Red face subway from owings mills to inner harbor

hello
i am newto MD and live in a nicer part of owings mills. i am considering taking a job at the Inner Harbor at Harborplace. I am thinking of taking the subway as the parking garage can cost from $200-$350 a month if i researched correctly. i work in retail so the hours range from 9am - 10 pm. i know there are early bird specials for parking, but still extreme. i am told there is hardly ever parking on the street. the cost of the subway is $64 a month. can anyone tell me which subway stop i will need to get off at? also does anyone know an easier way to travel into the city, also less expensive? and last, is this a safe option to ride the subway. I am originally from NY, so not much bothers me.... thank you!!!

Welcome to Baltimore blckcat:
1. I use the subway frequently (3-4 times a week). I have been doing so for years and never had an issue on it. (The buses are another story). Anyway, I mostly use it during rush hour and it is quick and convenient. You would want to get off at the Charles Center stop for work in the Inner Harbor. And... of course the Owings Mills stop in the opposite direction. There have been issues on the light rail and buses but I find the metro to be very safe. (I personally find the light rail to be safe also but that is open to debate by others.)
2. I NEVER park downtown. Why??? It is way to expensive. If I am out and about and don't feel like walking, I take a cab which is cheaper than parking downtown.
3. If you do want to drive downtown, you can park over in Little Italy or further east at much cheaper prices and find some free street parking. But those spaces fill up fast on typical workdays.
4.Again, riding the subway is safe. I cannot remember in recent times any issue about it in the news and there is lots of security at every station.

Why are you taking a job at the Inner Harbor? I don't mean to be personal, but you are going to spend quite a bit of time driving to the subway, parking, waiting for the train, walking to your job, and back again. Also, in the summer when the stadium opens up for baseball, the light rail is going to be filled to the hilt. Don't you think you could save money by working in Westminster, Towson, or maybe somewhere they supply parking for you. What kind of work are you trained in? The Inner Harbor is great, but waiting for the light rail in cold weather and when trains are packed isn't fun. You could maybe even find someone to car pool with you to a place that provides parking, and you could pocket that for gas. What about Applebees ior Olive Garden in Westminster? What kind of work are you looking for, maybe you can get some help from other readers of this forum of an open position somewhere for you. If it were me, even though the light rail is relatively safe, I would look closer to home or find a place that provides parking.

the subway & lightrail are 2 different things.from owings mills train station to the harbor is a good 25-30 minute ride.where as driving there would be atleast close to or over a hour during morning rush hour commute
