Smile ISP/Phone service

I've run several searches trying to find out who the Baltimore ISP providers are. If I'm missing the thread, I'd be thankful if you pointed me in the right direction.

We're moving to Federal Hill next month and are looking into ISP/phone companies. We'd prefer DSL and are curious as to who's in the area and who's recommended.

I think the previous owners have Verizon (but I'm not sure) but on Verizon's site they say there's no service. I don't mind calling around to places for more accurate information but I'd prefer to know who I should call.

If there's a cable company you'd recommend for cable internet, I'd also be interested but I'd prefer if I didn't have to have cable TV.

Oh, and if anyone has suggestions for an alarm company, I'd appreciate them as well.

Thanks in advance!

I use Comcast but in unison with the cable tv service so it is a bit discounted. I am really not to familiar with the other options.

LFF -- Ask the seller or neighbors whether Verizon is available. I had a similar problem. I was able to make Verizon work, but only after asking a tech I know to help installing it. When I did it on my own, it worked once and then didn't.
I'm happy with Verizon DSL. As to Comcast, I cannot say what I want to because of libel laws.

Don't get Vonage. I had it, it didn't work and they made me pay them $250 to cancel it even though it didn't work. After doing online research I found a ton of people all over the country that had similar problems. They must have expanded faster than their system could.

We have Verizon Business DSL as well as Comcast Internet. Both work fine. Standard DSL was too slow. Verizon phone. Cavalier is an alternative and we had that at a previous location. I liked them but their service was terribly slow.

Direct TV didn't work all that often when we had it in Federal Hill. Got rid of that...

Thanks for the replies, guys. I haven't had great luck with cable internet providers myself.
