Default safe areas UMB

Hi! I just got accepted to UMB Pharmacy school and will be moving to Baltimore in August. I would like to know if there are any safe areas/neighborhoods near the school that I should check out. I'm a 24 year old female whose lived in Miami all her life. I'm looking for a place with reasonable rent, and to know that if I park my car it will be there the next day in one piece. Thank You!

You can find a decent place in a decent neighborhood near UMB. I don't know what your price range will be but there are plenty of options. There are tons of threads on this topic so searching them may help you a bit more.

Check out Pigtown! We have lots of students here -- look at the Roundhouse Square and Barre Circle communities, and also Ridgely's Delight.

Hi! I just got accepted into Pharmacy school of UMD. I'm a petite woman, worry about the safety issue like everyone, but would like to enjoy the city to avoid traffic hassle. Glad to find one classmate who is doing some house hunting research like me. Right now, I'm thinking about "Ridgely's delight" because that I can maybe walk to school daily during daylight, and the rent is under my budget. Thinking about finding dog-friendly neighborhood too. Maybe we can exchange some info

I think most of the old-timers will tell you Baltimore is a very safe city. Just watch what time you go out and what streets you wander onto. Just like most other places. The mass transit is excellent and should get you anywhere you want to go. You'll enjoy the city and it's unique character.

HA HA HA!!! The mass transit is the ONE thing I'd never call "excellent" and I daresay I wouldn't find many people who would. Other than that, Baltimore is a fun city to live in.

I agree that the mass transit is a definite negative - unless you happen to live on the metro or light rail line.

Pigtown (you may hear it referred to as "Washington Village"), Ridgely's Delight and Barre Circle would be good options. Little Lithuania and the Hollins Market/Union Square areas might also be good to look into.

I worked at UMB when I first moved to Pigtown 19 years ago. I really loved being able to walk to work and not hassle with traffic and parking.
